It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the first issue of Island Art and Design! We have many great articles here for your viewing pleasure; from the wired and sometimes wacky world of graphics, to the wonderful and fiery world of ceramics, to the intricate world of textiles and the still but animate beauty of photography. We all love the Caribbean Diaspora and wanted to commemorate some of the finer talents we have come across on our journey across this lush, colorful landscape, which we have had an abundance of. So sit back, relax, and click your way to the future of art as we know it in the Caribbean.

For this first issue, we wanted a deeper look into ceramics, one of the fine arts that's both loved as well as misunderstood by many worldwide. Many great hands on the potter's wheel have come to mind as we delved into its rich and varied past. Our artist for this month features one of the more experienced and rounded ones among them. The article should take an interesting format and promises to be informative and insightful.

Check out the tutorials! We've endeavored to write them in a way in which you not only learn to do the subject at hand, but learn many other things about it (small history lessons if necessary). If that's not "tutoring", I don't know what is?!

Also, we live in a Diaspora where things are ALWAYS happening! See if there are any art-related events you may not want to miss; we keep you connected.

All in all, an interesting line-up for this issue we have. Keep checking back monthly for updates as we put you on a journey into the heart and soul of Caribbean art and design. Continue to stay tuned to the people who don't chase dreams, but build visions!

With best regards,
